Marta Vidal elected by an absolute majority as the new president of the Cava Designation of Origin

The new president will employ a strategy focused on enhancing the prestige of the Cava Designation of Origin, promoting the vineyards, and building confidence in the sector.

Vilafranca del Penedès, 11 June 2026. The Plenary Session of the Regulatory Council of the D.O. CAVA today elected Marta Vidal as the new president of the Cava Designation of Origin for the next four years. The vote took place at the headquarters of the Regulatory Council in Vilafranca del Penedès and was supported by an absolute majority of the members of the Plenary Session, which is composed equally of representatives from the production and winemaking sectors.

Marta Vidal, the first woman to hold the presidency of the D.O. Cava, takes on the challenge aiming to foster a shared vision for the sector - to position Cava in its rightful place. She also expressed her gratitude for the trust placed in her by the Plenary and stated that “she takes on this responsibility with enthusiasm, humility, respect, and an absolute commitment to the future of Cava”.

Born in the Penedès region, Marta has a degree in Business Administration and Management and has spent her professional career in banking, holding a number of prominent management roles. Since 2017, she has held the position of CEO at Vallformosa, a winery with over 150 years of history located in Vilobí del Penedès (Barcelona), with the challenge of transforming and professionalising its business model.

Marta has identified the strategic priorities of her term as enhancing the prestige of the D.O. Cava, promoting the vineyards, and building confidence in the sector.

Furthermore, the General Assembly has elected David Sendra Anglès as Vice-President of the D.O. Cava, who will support Marta’s presidency during this new four-year term.

The Plenary Session of the Regulatory Council of the D.O. CAVA comprises the following members:

Representatives of cooperative winegrowers: Enric Ferré Ginovart and Miguel Lleixa Masana, both from the Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives of Catalonia.

Representatives of winegrowers not affiliated with cooperatives: David Sendra Anglès and Fernando Medina (Dominio de la Vega SL), both representatives of the joint candidacy of Unió de Pagesos and Joves Agricultors i Ramaders de Catalunya (JARC), and Joan Colomer of J. Fortuny Fàbregas SL, representing the Associació de Viticultors del Penedès.

Representative of base wine producers: Adrià Rabadà of CEVIPE, Grup Cooperatiu SCCL, representing the Federació de Cooperatives Agràries de Catalunya.

Representatives of the wine producers: representing AECAVA-Association of Cava Producers: Josep Palau of Freixenet SA, Pere Escolar of García Carrión 1890 SL, Bruno Colomer of Codorníu SA, Pere Ventura of Pere Ventura i Família SL, Joaquim Tosas of Bodegues Sumarroca SL and Montse Nicolàs of Viña Torreblanca SL.

D.O. Cava: a commitment to origin, land and sustainability

It encompasses 38,000 hectares of vineyards and 6,200 winegrowers, while its 349 member wineries are present in over 100 countries.
