D.O. Cava in Estonia: the new era of sustainability excellence

To celebrate the centenary of Spain’s relations with Estonia, multiple events themed around Spanish wine and gastronomy were held during the month of February in Tallinn, the capital of the Republic of Estonia.

Coinciding with the International Tourism Fair (Tourest) which took place in the city last month, an evening reception was held every Saturday, with Cava as the main drink. These events were attended by professionals from the tourism sector, as well as representatives from the Spanish embassy and other neighbouring countries.

During the meetings, the Cava Designation of Origin was presented as an important tourist destination, as well as explaining the wine’s quality characteristics, the traditional method of production, the rigour of the protection under the D.O., and the effort and tradition encompassed within the bubbles of Cava.

Among the main activities, on 19 February a Masterclass on the Cava Denomination of Origin was offered by Kristjan Markii, a sommelier with more than 20 years of experience in the sector, current president of the Estonian Sommelier Association and tutor at the Estonian Sommelier School.

Accompanied by a guided tasting of six Cavas de Guarda Superior, the presentation noted the exceptional quality found within the Cava Designation of Origin.

The following Cavas de Guarda Superior Reserva were tasted: Celler Vell Brut Nature; Vinya Escudé Brut; Maria Rigol Ordi 100% Pinot Noir Brut Nature; Rovellats Reserva Imperial Rosé Brut; Bodegues Sumarroca Gran Reserva Brut Nature 2018.
