The FIZZ is Female, Cava Edition
The women of Cava were the protagonists of a special tasting in the United States, held on 16 June in a virtual setting by the well-known sparkling wine promoter Blaine Ashley.
Under the title The Fizz is Female, Cava Edition, Cava was showcased in an evening attended by more than 30 women, connected together online from different parts of the world, and all eager to learn more about Cava and its origins.
Blaine Ashley, founder of "The FIZZ is Female", a movement that highlights the most prominent women in the sparkling wine sector, gave a talk with three renowned women from the world of Cava. Together, they offered first-hand insight into the characteristics of Cava and the serious labour behind this sparkling wine made using the traditional method.
Maite Esteve, CEO of Vins el Cep, shared her vision and experience in the export sector, as well as her passion for viticulture and the raw material used in the production of high quality Cavas.
Marta Casas, oenologist and sommelier at Parés Baltà, delighted us with her story of passion about how she became an oenologist. She also talked about the important work of converting her winery to biodynamics, as well as her commitment to Cavas de Guarda Superior and long aging in the bottle using the traditional method.
Judit Llop, oenologist at Vins Família Ferrer, shed light on the role of women in the sector, her dream of becoming an oenologist, and the process of creating Cavas de Guarda Superior de Paraje Calificado, as well as the care of the vineyard and the importance of native grapes in their Cavas.
In addition, this event also enjoyed the support and participation of Jennifer Carruthers, owner of wine shop JC Select Wines, with distribution in the United States. Jennifer commented on each of the Cavas present at this specialist tasting, highlighting the impressive quality of the Cava, their surprising freshness, and the fruity and aromatic nuances present in the glass.
