In a world where busy schedules and daily demands often overshadow the importance of a healthy lifestyle, the recent International Congress on Lifestyle, Diet, Wine, and Health 2023 emerged as a shining example of knowledge and reflection. Superbly organised by the Foundation for Wine and Nutrition Research (FIVIN), in collaboration with the Wine Information Council (WIC), this event marked the beginning of a global conversation about the intersection between the way we live, our diet, and our relationship with wine.

The Enchantment of the Mediterranean Diet: More than Just Food

At the epicentre of the discussions, the Mediterranean Diet emerged as a beacon of hope for those seeking a balanced approach to nutrition and wellness. More than simply a set of dietary guidelines, the Mediterranean Diet stands as an entire lifestyle, encompassing both what we eat and how we live.

Dr. Ramón Estruch, president of the congress’s Scientific Committee, stressed:

“The importance of diverse eating habits, the synergy of different foods (including wine), and the role of polyphenols as one of the main nutrients of the Mediterranean diet ”.

Wine and Health: A Moderate Nuance

The congress highlighted the role of wine in this healthy lifestyle paradigm, underlining the importance of moderate consumption. Contrary to past perceptions, experts emphasised that enjoying a glass of wine, especially during meals, can be an integral and important part of a balanced diet.

The congress was not only a platform for the dissemination of knowledge, but also a forum for international networking. More than 30 speakers from various disciplines shared their perspectives, from nutritionists and doctors to oenology experts and psychologists, creating a diverse tapestry of ideas.

With 250 international congress participants, the diversity of opinions and experiences further enriched the discussions. At the closing of the congress, the conclusions resounded with optimism and determination. It was clear that adopting a healthy lifestyle, inspired by the Mediterranean Diet, and nuanced by moderate wine consumption, is not simply a choice, but an investment in our long-term health and happiness.
