The Cava Designation of Origin was the star of the gala dinner at Texsom(Texas Sommelier Conference), held on 1 May in Irving, Texas.

During the prestigious gala dinner, which took place as part of the TEXSOM International Wine Awards tasting, the attendees had the opportunity to taste six Cavas de Guarda Superior also participating in the same international competition.

The more-than-130 guests had the opportunity to learn about the best techniques of Cava service from Master Sommelier Nick Davis. This was followed by a talk on the latest news from the Cava D.O. and the presentation of the Cavas by the esteemed Master of Wine Mary Gorman-McAdams. This MW gave the professional attendees and judges of the competition a unique insight into the Cavas and shared relevant information on the latest trends in the sector, including the recent segmentation and zoning regulations, as well as introducing each of the eight Cavas during the dinner.

"Having the opportunity to taste so many examples of quality Cava in parallel across a range of production styles allowed by the D.O. was incredibly informative. Mary Gorman-McAdams brought a level of knowledge about the recent changes in the D.O. that helped significantly to clarify my understanding. The quality of the wines tasted was impressive and has rekindled my curiosity about the category,”
Elaine Chukan Brown, global wine educator and writer, and judge of the TEXSOM Awards.

A total of eight Cavas were presented during the dinner, each one designed to pair with a different dish in the tasting menu, representing the excellence and quality that characterise the D.O. Cava available in the US market: Alta Alella MIRGIN Gran Reserva, Codorníu Ars Collecta Blanc de Blancs, Giró del Gorner Rosé, Juvé & Camps Reserva de la Família, Molí Parellada Mercat Brut, Roger Goulart Gran Reserva, Vilarnau Brut Reserva NV and Vins el Cep Gelida Gran Reserva.

"It is an excellent opportunity to taste the different vintages and get a better idea of the great variety of Cava (...) Pairing these Cavas with food, and tasting the different vintages, enhances the overall tasting experience"
explained Mary Gorman-McAdams MW

DO Cava's participation in the TEXSOM Conference, and its sponsorship of the gala dinner, demonstrates the Designation’s commitment to promoting excellence and diversity in quality sparkling wines. This initiative is part of the OCM 2023 campaign, which aims to strengthen the presence and awareness of Cavas in the US market.

"As a buyer, there is so much good wine available that it is easy to forget about the classics. The TEXSOM dinner was a welcome reminder of the great value for money offered by Cava, at all price points. I visited with some old friends, and made some new ones, and I can't wait to get them all on the shelf.”
Christy Frank, founder of Copake Wine Works, judge of the TEXSOM awards

The Cava D.O. would like to thank all the participants of the TEXSOM Conference and those who attended the gala dinner for their interest in Cavas and their continued support of the Designation.
