The DO sectoral meeting discussed measures aimed at ensuring a balance between supply and demand as well as improving guarantees and controls
Vilafranca del Penedès, 23 April 2020.- In response to the current issues of over production and the large amounts of stock in the Cava sector as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the DO Cava sectoral committee met online today to evaluate a range of measures designed to redress the consequences as much as possible.
The measures will be incorporated into the standards for the next harvest and will need to be approved at the Regulatory Board’s plenary session, scheduled for May. These standards will be accompanied by new monitoring actions and strict controls to ensure compliance from all DO members.
The president of DO Cava, Javier Pagés, declared that “the measures that we are studying demonstrate the high degree of responsibility from the strong and vibrant Cava sector”, adding that “if we work together, we can overcome all adversities. The effort, conviction and generosity shown by all DO agents has been admirable”.
