BWW: Discussion panel "Cava 2.0: the era of sustainable development"

In this discussion panel led by Ferrán Centelles, wine expert, together with Javier Pagés, president of the D.O. Cava, will explain the commitment of the D.O. through the search for the origin supported by the new zoning and segmentation regulations already in place, highlighting the novelties for the consumer and its importance in the path towards sustainable and also organic production.

For this reason, Pedro Ballesteros MW, Sarah Jane Evans MW and Fernando Mora MW - who were also the experts who supported this regulation when it was just a project - will reveal their views on this new path and share the vision of Cava around the world.

Pedro Ballesteros MW

Agricultural Engineer and Master in Viticulture and Enology. He obtained the WSET Diploma with distinction and became Master of Wine in 2010. He studied in the wine regions of Jerez, Rheingau, Burgundy, Napa and Bordeaux. He chairs some international wine competitions, including Decanter's DWWA, Vinitaly's 5Stars, Concours Mondial Bruxelles, Bacchus, among others.

Ferrán Centelles

Drinks Manager at ElBulliFoundation and collaborator for Jancis Robinson. Currently National Chair for Spain at the Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA). President of the sommelier jury at the Taste Institute (ITQI).

Sarah Jane Evans MW

Writer, wine journalist and Master of Wine. Co-chair of the Decanter World Wine Awards and past president of the Institute of Masters of Wine (2014-16). As a writer and consultant, one of her special interests is Spain and Sherry. She is president of the Grand Order of Knights of Wine. She is a certified Sherry educator; and has received the Dama de Albariño and Dama de Solear awards.

Fernando Mora MW

Founder of Bodegas Frontonio in 2010. In 2017 he became Master of Wine, obtaining this exclusive title in first call and getting the "Noval Award" to the best thesis of his promotion. He is a jury member of different tasting competitions such as Bacchus, Decanter and IWC. His main areas of expertise, about which he gives talks and lectures, are Grenache, old wines, mountain vineyards, Spanish wines, export and marketing, among others.

Javier Pagés

President of DO Cava and Barcelona Wine Week. Previously, he was CEO of the Codorníu Raventós Group and vice-president of the Spanish Wine Federation. His main objective is to enhance the value and prestige of Cava and place it at the forefront of quality, among the best sparkling wines in the world. Last year he introduced a new regulation that will raise the requirements to reinforce the quality seal of Cava.
