D.O. Cava Masterclasses at GuildSomm Florida and Texas

As part of the Cava D.O. training program in the United States, on August 2th and 4th, two in-person Masterclasses will be held exclusively for GuildSomm Florida and Texas members.

In both seminars about Cava, the long history and tradition that precedes this great sparkling wine, its geography, grapes and the strict regulations that make Cava shine internationally for its high quality will be detailed in depth.

All this will be accompanied by a guided tasting to show the great variety and styles of Cava ideal for any occasion.

GuildSomm is an international non-profit organization for wine professionals that elevates the wine and beverage community through industry education.


Miami, Florida: GuildSomm Masterclass – 2nd August
Guided seminar/tasting taught in person to 30-40 attendees, majority of whom are wine professionals, and many of whom occupy buying positions. The 3-hour seminar/tasting will take place at Miami Culinary Institute in Miami, Florida will be taught by GuildSomm director of education, Christopher Tanghe MS. Seminars cover regional history, geography, grapes, winemaking, and wine styles, and a guided tasting featuring 12-14 different Cavas.

Austin, Texas: GuildSomm Masterclass – 4th August
What: Guided seminar/tasting taught in person to 30-40 attendees, majority of whom are wine professionals, and many of whom occupy buying positions. The 3-hour seminar/tasting will take place at Lamberts in Austin, Texas will be taught by GuildSomm director of education, Christopher Tanghe MS. Seminars cover regional history, geography, grapes, winemaking, and wine styles, and a guided tasting featuring 12-14 different Cavas.


Chris

Chris is a New Englander, having grown up throughout upstate New York, Amherst, Boston and Cape Cod. He attended the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY graduating in 2000 and has worked in restaurants across the country including Denver, Phoenix, Santa Barbara and Seattle.

His interest in wine first began while at the CIA under the tutelage of Stephen Kolpan and Michael Weiss but didn’t become the focus of his career until later as he was only 18. Pursuing the idea of owning a restaurant, Chris took additional classes in 2006 from the International Sommelier Guild to round out his cooking skillset. A newly minted Master Sommelier was his instructor, and Chris was immediately inspired to pursue the Court of Master Sommelier path. After seven years of hard work and study, Chris passed the Master Sommelier exam on his second attempt in 2013.
